To protect and promote the rights and cultures and well-being of Indigenous Peoples’ focusing on land, water and resources rights, cultural preservation, social justice and environmental conservation while empowering communities to reclaim their narratives and assert their rights.....
We protect and defend Indigenous Peoples’ collective and individual rights on land, water and resources, including the right to self-determination by virtue of which they can freely determine their political status and freely pursue their self determined economic, social and cultural development.
To us, everything begins with dialogueand partnerships.
A world where Indigenous communities thrive in harmony with their land, water and other resources. Exercising their rights and preserving their cultural heritage. We envision a future where sustainable resource management is prioritised and Indigenous knowledge is integrated into environmental policies leading to a healthier planet.
Our programs are focused on thirteen (13) thematic areas and they are outlined in our focal areas. We value trust, honesty and respect, integrity and transparency, accountability and independence.Together with our communities and partners, we ensure that Indigenous voices are heard by facilitating their participation in the UN system and in national dialogues. Our connection and partnership with Indigenous Peoples organisations, alliances and affliated institutions , we intend to create a global network that would inspire a change through sharing of good practices and experiences.
Founded and registered in 2024, Indigenous Water and Land Resources Rights Alliance (Fiji) has been serving our communities for over a year but had been involved in communities over 25 years. Our organization was established to address the growing need for attention and challenges on Indigenous communities and their rights to their resources in Fiji., We have more than thirty (30) years of research on the history/legislations and governance on land, water and resources and Indigenous peoples entitlements which needs redress in Fiji under the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights. Over that history, IWALRRA has over ten thousand documents most of which have been extracted from the Fiji National Archives and other publications and had presented to the past and current Fijian government cases that support this objectives. Everything we do is with and in support of Indigenous Peoples .
IWALRRA is a non-governmental human rights organisation promoting and defending Indigenous Peoples’ collective/individual rights on their land, water and other resources. We believe that Indigenous Peoples as rights holders are powerful agents of change. Together with allies, and in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples, our core ambition is that Indigenous Peoples’ rights to land, water and resources and their self-determined development are promoted, respected and protected.
Working with its domestic and its international partners, to ensure the Alliance will promotes resilient, equitable and sustainable resource development for the indigenous people of Fiji and to maintain traditional knowledge and practices.
We assist to build partnerships with government agencies, nonprofit organisations and other stakeholders including international partners and donors to advocate for the protection of indigenous issues, rights, and their resources
Be catalyst for good in all indigenous resource-based activities in Fiji, and supporting indigenous women and girls through initiatives that address gender quality, empowerment, access to economic opportunities.
Through its alliance of grassroot Indigenous Peoples, its mission is to protect the sacredness of its natural resources from contamination and exploitation from external parties.
IWALRRA creates indigenous peoples’ marine protected areas and marine reserves to protect coral reefs and other marine ecosystem from overfishing, pollution and other threats.
It assists to make a significant difference in advocating for the rights of indigenous peoples. Through their efforts, they are not only transmitting individual lives but also contributing to the broader goal of social justice and equality in Fiji and internationally.
It also provides legal assistance to the indigenous t ribes, organisations, and individuals, nationwide who might otherwise have gone without adequate representation.
iWALRRA addresses inequality and climate justice for indigenous people of Fiji through fostering community -led conservation efforts to protect natural resources and biodiversity and addressing the impact of climate change on indigenous communities. It also organise the promoting, protecting and defending economic development and genuine indigenous peoples’ rights and for the protection of their land and environment, to protect their culture and to achieve self government.
We ensure that self-determined progress is maintained and nurtured to ensure equitable relationship flourish through indigenous resource owners’ enterprises and partnerships for the future. IWA LRRA builds partnerships with government agencies, nonprofit organisations and other stakeholders including international partners and donors to advocate for the protection of indigenous issues, rights, and their resources
